A New Day

Hello all...so i've come to the conclusion that we are completely awful at our blog and I apologize for that! We have had a very stressful past week or so...we had finally heard back on "our" house and it turns out the offer was not enough...they wanted a lot more, which we were not able to do. We gave up all hope, but then yesterday we heard back saying we could do another offer, so we did. We now sit and wait...again and hope that this time it will go through. Fingers crossed please!

We spend the last opening weekend snowboarding at Cannonsburg and needless to say it was an awesome day! It was good to ride w/some great people and end the season on a high note.
We have had a wonderful sickness going around our household lately (a nasty stomach bug along with a sinus/uri issue). It all started with my brother Kyle (who I will blame haha), moved to my step-father and then on to Meaghn and now on to me. Thankfully I am feeling better, just needed to get it out of our system I guess. This lovely bipolar Michigan weather is NOT helping our cause at all either lol, I am beyond ready for spring/summer.
I'm sure most everyone has heard about the Sepreme Court cases here in the US last week, I know they will probably not come to any conclusion until June or so but my fingers are crossed that people one day will see there is no difference between my relationship and yours. We are all human. There have been plenty of comments I wish I would not of read, but could not help myself. It amazes me how hateful and rude some people can be. I do not judge you for your views on things, so do not judge me for mine. We are all equal.
In other great news, NBC Today show host Jenna Wolfe announced that her and her partner of 3 years, Stephanie Gosk are expecting a baby girl in August! How awesome, not only to come out to the world but also that they are expecting! It is always great to hear about other LGBT couples coming out, especially people we see on a daily basis. Here is a link to Jenna's blog below:

We hope all is well w/everyone...let us know if ya'll have any questions or what to know anything about us! :-)

Love Is In The Air

Happy early Valentine's Day everyone! So Meag & I are horrible about updating this but I promise we will get better!! We have had a busy few weeks lately with Meag working full time & going to school, snowboarding and working full time myself. We have heard back from our realtor in regards to our house...bad & good news. We are still waiting on the sellers bank so at this time we have a 50/50 shot...please keep the good vibes coming!
Michigan has had some awesome winter weather lately...a fresh 12-14 inches fell the other day so needless to say snowboarding has been on point. Meag has had some HUGE progression lately & has even started hitting a few of the smaller boxes/rails. I am so extremely proud of her! Another round of good news, we are taking vacation in late May through early June to South Carolina to visit meag's family & friends. I could not be happier...I seriously love it there, the weather is awesome, her family & friends have amazing southern hospitality plus we get to eat some good southern food!
Valentine's Day is right around the corner, what does everyone have planned? Now don't get me wrong I do love what the holiday is about but to me personally, why must we have 1 day for this? You should show the person you love every day just how much you love them. Valentine's day has turned into a major marketing holiday...cards, chocolate, flowers etc... Meag has class Thursday night so we will be having a lunch date along with the adorable little boy she nanny's for, and I could not be any happier!
We hope everyone has a great Valentine's Day & don't forget to always show your significant other what they mean to you!

Quick Update..

Hi Y'all!!
It's Meaghn here and just wanted to do a quick update of what we've been up too lately. I'm finally back in Michigan from going away for the Holidays. Sad :( I know. But hopefully this will be the last time I'll have to spend Christmas apart from love. I had a great time enjoying my family, being in the south, and the warm weather wasn't so bad either! However, I am glad to be back in this semi-wintery weather! On New Years Eve, S and I went snowboarding. This was the first time that I had actually gone down a REAL slope, (rather than the beginners slope), which was a huge accomplishment! I'm getting better every time and can't wait to go again! Our NYE night consisted of a whole lot of nothing! We stayed in the warm house with S's family and relaxed after an exhausting day.

After a while of snowboarding.. my legs were done for.
On another note, S and I are still in the process of buying a house. With that, comes a lot of home decor. We are slowly but surely getting things, one room at a time! Recently, we bought all of our bathroom decorations, and let me tell YOU.. two girls decorating a house gets quite...COMPLICATED. Although we did finally decide on our bathroom colors/decorations/etc. After we purchased our bathroom stuff, we ended up going into a furniture store on a hunt for a bed frame. (yes, we are currently sleeping with the mattress on the floor!) Not expecting to come out with really anything, we ended up getting sucked into a super cute bedroom suite. This included the bed frame, footboard, headboard, dresser, chest w/mirror, and night stand...for a VERY good price. We were super excited and surprised that we could walk in a store and walk out with everything we needed to complete our room (the big stuff at least). SWEET! Once we actually GET our house, there will definitely be pictures to show...but for the meantime, use your imagination ;)

On Monday I started school again.. it feels good to be back in college and finishing all that I've started. However, I will miss being with S at night :(
Within the next few weeks, we hope to here something about our house. Keep all of your positive vibes coming, please & thank you!

Hope everyone is having an awesome week!

Happy Holidays!

Happy Holiday's ya'll! As most of you know, Meag & I have spent the past week apart. She is in South Carolina visiting family and I am back in Michigan...needless to say, it's sucked! She comes home Sunday tho :-) This is hopefully the last Christmas we will spend apart, I would love to see what a non-white Christmas looks like (kinda haha I do like my snow). Just wanted to do a quick update and check up on everyone. It's finally been snowing here and we have been able to get some snowboarding in. Meag is learning slowly but surely and I couldn't be more happier/proud of her!We plan on going New Year's Eve day and then i'm not real sure what our plans are for the night, but as long as we are together we will have fun. How was everyone's Christmas & what are some of your plans for New Years? I personally can not WAIT for 2013....Meag & I have huge plans and we can not wait to be able to share them with you...with time. Here are a few pics so enjoy...

Winter Is Near!

Hey all...Shelby here, sorry it's been so long since our last update! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, we sure did :-) We have been super busy lately with work and the stress of buying our first home. Back in September we placed an offer on a short sale home (some people may not know what that is...its the step people go thru before their house goes in to foreclosure), and have been waiting ever since. It is a long, stressful process but we are at the end stretch. Our offer must be first approved by the owners (which it was), then everything goes to their lender for approval...this is the waiting period and this is what we are in right now. It all has been approved on our end, mortgage loans etc...now we just wait. Our realtor keeps us updated every week and we should be hearing something soon...then it will be time to close! (as long as everything goes smoothly on their end). Here is a pic of the house below...

Our Thanksgiving was amazing, we spent it with my family, ate lots of amazing food then went out for "Black Friday" shopping with my mom. Wal-Mart was not the smartest choice...I think we had more fun people watching then anything else, but we did get some great deals on 2 amazing TVs for our future home. What else has been going on in our world lately....a few weeks back we went to a Michigan State football game against Nebraska, now even though the end of the game was not what we had hoped for...we still had a blast and of course I will always be a Sparty fan!! Meag's team (South Carolina Gamecocks) have been on a roll this year so yay for that!

Even better news...winter is just around the corner and I could not be happier. There is nothing better then being able to snowboard whenever I want, and enjoying all of the gorgeous snow. Meag is in the process of buying a new snowboard, bindings, boots etc...she is bound and determined to learn this year and progress.  A few weeks back Cannonsburg (my local resort) held a pre season rail jam....BIG things coming from them this season. I can not wait to be able to strap in this winter. Hopefully the temperatures continue to stay below freezing and the snow starts to fly...and stay!

Oh wait, even better news...Meag finally came out to the parents of the children she nanny's for and of course, this was not a surprise to them but they were so happy that she finally told them. We never know how people are going to be when we tell them, but we are coming to learn that a majority of the people do not care, and the others do not matter. We have an amazing support system and I am so extremely thankful for that.

We would like to give a HUGE congratulations to Whitney & Megan who recently got the news that Whitney's visa was approved and she is now a permanent resident of the UK!! We wish you girls all the best in your future and hope we can make plans to get together when you come to visit the States!

For our next blog, we would like to do some Q & A's....so ask away everyone!!

6 months and counting...

Hello Everyone!!

So if you guys read our Love Story, You may know that Shelby and I have now lived in Michigan for 6 months!! I can't believe it! It all has gone by SO fast.. maybe because we've actually been pretty busy since moving here in April. With saying all of that, I (M) thought I would give y'all a little overview of what we've been up too over the past six months.

As I said before, We packed our belongings and headed north from Nashville, TN to Grand Rapids, MI on April 10, 2012.

Her mom made us a cute little sign!

I was able to celebrate S's 25th birthday with her for only the 2nd time since we've been together on May 13th! That month we also celebrated the graduation of S's little brother, Kyle!

Shelby was born and raised on a farm so in June, I experienced bailing hay for the first time! Let me just say it was HOT and those bails are HEAVY.

I decided to dress for the occasion HA!

A few weeks later.. we decided to get our first tattoos together. This was only my second one.. S has a lot more than I do..

S on left, M on right

We spent most of July at the beach (AKA the lake).. yes, confusing. Michigan doesnt have an actual OCEAN, but they do have a lake that is about as big as an ocean; AKA Lake Michigan. So people in Michigan call lakes, the "beach".. funny huh? I also experienced shooting a gun for the first time. (WATCH OUT) ;)

YIKES!

In August, Shelby finally got to come home to South Carolina with me to visit my family and friends! This was the first time we actually got to spend time in South Carolina together since I was in my freshman year of college! We had a lot of fun shopping, (Target, of course), watching the first football game of the season, and spending lots of time laughing at my cute nephew's dance moves! (Video below)

S loves the palm trees

<3

 Sexy and I Know It

On September 24th, I celebrated my 21st Birthday!! Finally LEGAL!!

Olive Garden

Then we played Dress Up at Target

Lastly, this month (October) I was able to go to my first Red Flannel Festival! This is a festival that Shelby's small town hosts every year. Eveyone obviously wears red, they have a parade (mostly full of tractors and bands from local schools), and there is always an annual Beer Tent that we also attended. A few weeks ago, I was able to go to my FIRST hockey game ever!! Lets just say, It was AWESOME. Sports on ICE and $1 Beers & $1 hotdogs.. It couldn't get any better than that! Although, I must say, seeing Pitch Perfect was the highlight of my October so far. If you have not yet seen this movie, DO IT!! You will not be disappointed. Promise.

Wearing our Red for Red Flannel!

$1 Beers at the Griffin's Game!

GO.SEE.IT. You will laugh hysterically!! :D

P.S... Our Saturday's mostly consists of at least ONE football game, if not both! Go Cocks & Go Spartans!!

ENJOY!!!
xoxo,
M

Our Love Story

Where it all began; June 22, 2010 (yes, we remember the exact date that we started talking) thanks to facebook and a country music group, Bomshel, we became friends on facebook. Instantly we started hitting it off and began talking 24/7. Meaghn lived in South Carolina at the time, while I was living in Michigan. While I had always dated guys, Meaghn had never been in a relationship and neither one of us had ever been in a same-sex relationship; we knew it was more than a friendship. After a month of talking, I (Shelby) decided to fly to North Carolina to meet up with Meaghn and her friends to see Bomshel for a concert (no one knew at this time how we were feeling about each other). Meeting each other for the first time was one of the most nerve wracking things we have ever been through. When I first saw her, I knew it was meant to be. Her short stature, cute, southern accent self had me hooked. We had a great weekend while becoming more and more physically and emotionally attached. It was hard to show our feelings towards each other when no one that weekend knew. The night before I had to fly back home, July 25, 2010, I asked her to be my girlfriend.
Over the next few months we were living a long-distance relationship, which was the hardest thing for me...especially since none of my friends or family knew (same goes for Meaghn). Meaghn had always wanted to go to school for Public Relations with a goal of working for a big record label in Nashville, TN; I knew I had to make the move for her in hopes that soon after, Meaghn would follow and end up in Nashville. I had been working at a doctors office as a Medical Assistant for the past 4 years in my hometown and absolutely loved my job, but I knew what I had to do. I made a quick weekend trip down to Tennessee to look for a job and an apartment with a friend of mine and by the time I came back to Michigan, I had an apartment down there. My friend Jeremy, who is also from Michigan, decided to move down there with me (he is gay...so no worries). When I told my mom (my best friend in the entire world) and the rest of my family, friends and coworkers that I would be moving to Nashville on September 1st, I received mixed reactions. No one knew or understood why I would just want to jump up and move out of state when I had an awesome job and when all my family and friends were in Michigan, and my biggest passion, snowboarding was there...not in a southern state. I couldn't be straight forward with them and tell them I was moving bc of a relationship...let alone one that was with a girl. Nevertheless, everyone supported me, especially my mother.
Meaghn was just starting her freshmen year at college in South Carolina, so I knew she wasn't going to move right away. I got an awesome job at an Endocrinologist office, and thankfully had friday's off. I made plenty of late night road trips to South Carolina after work on Thursdays and would stay until Sunday morning just so we could see each other. When I would go to visit, it would be a secret from her friends/dorm roommates and family...so we would get a hotel room and no one would ever know. Meaghn's birthday was coming up and I was going to visit her that weekend. One night her mom made a random trip to her college, which was about an hour away, so Meaghn knew something was up. You see, Meaghn's family is Southern Baptist so as some of you may know, they are very strict on certain things. When she went down to meet her mom, her mom went off. She had saw some stuff on facebook that we had wrote to each other and on Jeremy's page...so she knew. She did and said everything she could to let Meaghn know that being a lesbian was NOT okay. That night was one of the hardest nights of my life. We were not allowed to talk, Meaghn's mom had her go see a church counselor and everything. Meag made it very clear to her mom, that this is who she was and it was not a choice and she would do and be with who she wants to in life (long story short). I was a complete mess and decided it was time to call my mom and spill the beans. I was bawling my eyes out because I was terrified on how she would react...but when I told her that I hoped she wouldnt be mad and that I was dating "that girl Meaghn from South Carolina", her exact words were "Shelby, I would of been more upset if you told me you hated animals". (oh by the way I grew up on a farm, so animals are a big part of my family lol. WHEW, huge sigh of relief).
We both knew we would overcome all of this and would slowly start telling our friends and some of our family about us. I decided tell my old coworkers first, which were all completely supporting of everything. I then took the easy way and changed my facebook relationship status...hold your breath....no bad responses, ALL positive and supporting. Meaghn on the other hand, couldn't do the same....people in the south are much different than in the north (no offense). But she decided to tell a few of her friends and she received support, which is exactly what she needed. Her family on the other hand, was still in the air about it...I was not allowed to come around and they didn't want to talk about it, time would change this. The next few months were extremely hard on us, lots of tears and feeling lost. Meaghn didn't have her license at the time, so I was the only one able to travel if we wanted to see one another.
The new year came around, and our hopes for spending new years eve together came to an end when I knew I wouldn't be able to visit. I still was making the drive to South Carolina (about 8 hours) at least once a month, sometimes twice if I was able to. Spring came around, Meaghn was finishing up her first year at college and I needed her in Tennessee with me. Her family knew she wanted to head to Nashville for school, so it was a little less of a stress for her having to tell them..although she wasn't planning to move SO soon...but still when the time came, her mother was not as happy and excited as her dad was. Meaghn is a daddy's girl so he supports her 100 percent. We had really hoped she would be living in Nashville for our 1 year anniversary, but due to a few bumps in the road, that was a heart broken no-go. Finally, the beginning of August came and Meaghn was moving to Nashville and we would officially be living together and starting our future. Meaghn's mother was finally coming around to our relationship and was realizing that her little girl was growing up and she would do whatever she wanted to do in life, no matter what. Meag got an awesome job working a school day care and was going to a community college and we were finally where we wanted to be. Bad news though, I was extremely home sick. Nashville was not my style and was definitely not for me. I was born and raised in the country, I was used to snowboarding every day that I could in the winter and most importantly, I was missing my mom. How could I let meag know that I was completely unhappy living in Tennessee? We had many long talks about what we wanted to do, and once Thanksgiving came along I had Meag come up to Michigan with me for the first time ever...really hoping she would fall in love with it. Normally we have snow in Michigan for Thanksgiving, but last winter just did not work out in my favor...no snow. We had an awesome trip, Meag loved everything about it...now for the hard part, trying to tell Meaghn I wanted her to move up to Michigan with me. We were not living in a very nice neighborhood while in Tennessee, so that was a plus when trying to tell Meag why I wanted to move home. All this time, I was worried on what Meag would think about moving, and she had known all along that I would only be happy back in Michigan and that she was actually looking forward to move. The next few months, we went back to Michigan to visit and finally (YAY) slowly start to move all our things up there.
April 2012 rolled around and we were officially moving up to Michigan. We decided to move in with my parents and younger brother, so we could work on saving up to buy a house together. Our 2 year anniversary was this past July and I couldn't be happier. I was fortunate enough to get a job back at my old doctors office and Meag landed an awesome job as a nanny for 2 adorable children, a 4 year old and a 1 year old. It has now been 6 months since we have been living in Michigan, in my parent's house (yes, it's time we move out).
We have been looking non-stop for a house, but have had a few things fall through and are keeping our fingers crossed that something works out in the next few months due to the fact we have big plans for next year. While same-sex marriages/civil partnerships are not recognized in the state of Michigan, we will make it happen. I forgot to mention, I am 25 and Meaghn is 21. We have had plenty of long talks about our future, and as I see myself getting older, I am wanting to start a family as well as Meaghn. After we settle in to our new house (which hopefully we will hear something soon), we will go forward with starting a family. Meaghn is going to school to be a dental hygienist and still has a few more years. We know it will be a lot to handle, bc honestly not all of both our families know about us, even though I am pretty positive it's easy to assume...we will make it work. The future can sound scary, but we both know what we want in life and know if we have each other, everything will work out. We can not wait to buy a house and start a family. We are so happy and excited for our future together and can't wait to see where life takes us.
